I have started learning more and more about wine lately. I love red wine. When I went out to Napa county, I bought all sorts of great wine. I bought Merlot's, Pinot Noir's and a Port desert wine. Usually I drink wine before I go to bed, and a glass makes you sleep better. Well, that hasn't been confirmed, but it usually makes ME sleep better. At my market they have a great liquor department that has this guy who works there that knows a lot about wine. For Mother's Day, I bought my mom 3 bottles of Riesling (sp?) wine. She likes that stuff. When my dad was out here a few months ago, he bought her a bottle when we were in Napa. She likes it, and I think she drank it, so this will be good. I haven't sent out the present yet, cause it is heavy and I dont have a car. I called UPS just now, and they said that they can come pick up the box, but they can only pick it up from 9am-7pm. So I said great, can you pick it up after 6pm? And the lady said that she can't schedule a specific time, and that it would have to be vague. This totally pisses me off. Anyways, I really loved the wine I bought, and I have decided that the wine that I bought from Francis Ford Coppola's winery, I am going to save and not drink for a few years. The guy at the store said that red wine like Merlot ages with time, so I asked him when a good time to drink it would be. He said that it would have to be my choice. He said that it would depend on my tastes, and when I thought a good aging would be. So i thought about it, and said, if I tried to age it for lets say 5 years, and thought it tasted good, so I decided to wait another 5 years to drink the second bottle, then that means 10 years would have gone by. Now if I bought a bottle on that day that I drank that wine, ten years down the line, then I would have to let that age for at LEAST 10 more years. But i would probably want to experiment and try to let it age longer. So this brings me to the point of frustration that means that in order to find out when I like to drink my wine, I would have to wait like 30-40 years in order to get the pattern down, and then, I would be too old to let a bottle age. So, I decided to drink the bottle I had. You know I could have avoided all that by just buying old wine. But that sucks, cause it costs so much. But I guess it is worth it. |
